Muscle Milk Pickett Racing exits TUDOR Championship
Posted Image

Racer.com

Defending ALMS P1 champions Muscle Milk Pickett Racing announced they would be taking a hiatus over the Long Beach and Monterey rounds to better sort their new ORECA 03-Nissan P2 car, and was expected to return at Detroit.

RACER has confirmed the Greg Pickett-owned team will now conclude its TUDOR United SportsCar Series program, effective immediately. MMPR has also reduced its staff size, leaving the team's immediate future direction open. MMPR will keep its chassis, either for addition to Pickett's collection, or for possible use at a later date.

It's believed Pickett (ABOVE LEFT) was interested in fielding a works GT program, either in the TUDOR Championship or in the Pirelli World Challenge series for 2014, but with the late demise of a rumored deal with Nissan to run a GT3-spec GTR, the Indianapolis-based outfit was forced to assemble a last-minute privateer P2 effort. MMPR acquired a French ORECA chassis and an engine supply from Nissan weeks before the TUDOR Championship season opener at Daytona, turning its first laps during the Roar Before the 24.

Mechanical and competitive balance issues plagued the team at Daytona and again at Sebring, leading Pickett to halt the program and re-evaluate his options. The veteran racer and team owner was rarely seen enjoying himself this season, which likely played a role in Pickett's decision to alter the team's course at such an early stage.

The choice to end MMPR's P2 effort after two rounds leave question marks over if and where the team will return, although it's known drivers Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr will remain under contract with the team.

MMPR's exit from the TUDOR Championship follows a turbulent two months where Rolex 24 at Daytona GTD class winners Level 5 Motorsports withdrew from the series and Sebring GTD polesitters Turner Motorsport have taken a step back to sample running in PWC.

Minus MMPR, the TUDOR Championship’s P2 chassis count is reduced to five with dual entries from Extreme Speed Motorsports, SpeedSource, and a single car from Oak Racing.

Well this sucks, Only 3 P2 cars left in TUSC now. It also means that #future has managed to kill off both of the teams that came from LMP1 last season. :(

fiddlesticks Tudor. First they killed off p1, and now the p2 cars are quitting because the DP's are OP. DP's are the ugliest peices of sugar I've ever looked at in my life, would rather drive this Posted Image stupid thing to school every day than even look at a DP

"Today has been a tough day, my time at Muscle Milk racing now over with their exit from racing means no escape at all from a current work situation that I have never liked. I am going to have some big decisions to make soon enough but I am feeling really down right now "

Everyone (WEC/Tudor) will be running the same spec prototype in a couple years once the regs are agreed upon. So, who cares?

2013 LMP2 Champions - Starworks
2014 - Aston Martin Racing

Could FLMS run split-class races in the future?

And went on to become skeptical of something else. and when they got onto an aiRplane, they dIdn't apologize to the engineers on their way in."

It won't be for a while considering the WEC has it's new formula with Porsche, Audi, Toyota, Nissan and other major players loving it. And the thing is while it works in the rest of the world imsa won't buy it because greener technology has no place in America... Where are all the 427 blocks going to go in a green world? GM Ford etc just aren't ready to go there yet.

You obviously were not thinking before you wrote this comment. What does it matter?

Well for one the series just lost a great team with world class drivers and a team that draws a lot of fans to the track.

Second, as i posted earlier, a lot of people are now with out jobs. But hey its ok right, in a few years everyone will be happy again under new regs, maybe.

And third it just goes to show that this series, which is hard to call motor sport is shooting themselves in the foot.

And I still have not heard from your side why you like this series so much. You always just say oh youre a whiner. Come with some statement or facts on why this new series of the future is so great. I for sure would love to see ALMS right about now.

P1 was dead in the ALMS after 2010. Awesome article though. That guy will catch so much poo-poo from the tools against the series, but he is spot on.

Clearly written by an idiot though... For starters the reason Pla can't put consistent laps in is because the P2 cars can't get through traffic.

Can't really be bothered to argue about it though because I wouldn't consider myself a follower of the series. Much more interesting sportscar racing going on in the real world.

All I'd suggest is that the teams know better than journalists and fanboys and their thoughts are pretty obvious through their actions.

The test sessions today were more entertaining than a TUSC race. Roll on tomorrow and Sunday.

i dont under stand how an endurance series can run a class with 5 cars. It makes me think that they might aswell remove the class altogether. The truth is how good can the racing be with only 5 cars.

What class are you talking about?

Both PC and P in IMSA had 2x that amount at a non NAEC race. The US endurance field is quite strong right now.
